How I Discovered The Secrets to Creating a Life of My Dreams!!!
I don't know exactly when it happened but one day I woke up and something was different. No it wasn't a major change, It wasn't like I got out of the other side of the bed, heck I would have had to climb over the wife to do that. It was subtle, like I had a bit more spring to my step as I was headed over to hit the snooze button on the alarm clock. But this time I didn't head back to bed to get another few minutes of sleep. I headed directly into the shower and finished my morning routine as normal. But the feeling had not left me, I tried putting a finger on it, then it hit me it was this new found confidence I had. It was this deep knowing that I didn't have to accept what life had to offer me. I realized that it wasn't my job, the boring routine, office politics, the people around me that were the problem. It was my own choices that lead me down this path of frustration, resentment and the feeling I was silently dying from the inside. I don't know exactly why I had settled on this particular reality, was it the security, my destiny or just plain ignorance? I just knew at that particular moment in time I had a powerful choice to make. Was I simply going to just go back to my routine allowing life to dictate to me where I was going or was I going to take responsibility and mold life to my deepest dreams and desires?
The reason your reading this right now is I didn't just shake my head trying to brush off that new feeling of confidence I had discovered about myself. I finally stood up and said enough is enough, why do others get to live a life that most of us only dream about. Why do I have to sacrifice my precious time to be away from my family, friends and abandon my deepest childhood dreams? I discovered I always had a choice, but I was simply just ignoring it. I know with all of life's responsibilities, stress and worry we tend to push our hopes and dreams into the background. I still remember having a conversation only a few weeks back with my wife about how I seldom wake up from a dream anymore. Why was it only when I was only a child I used to dream so vivid that I swear my dreams were a reality?
That confidence I felt was me knowing without a doubt that I was going to allow my child to surface again and I was going to dream very big dreams. OK, what was the catalyst that sparked this confidence? I have to give credit to a particular book I recently read, a book that I found simply by accident. After another frustrating, stressful day at my former job I was determined to start up a business. So while surfing the internet I came upon this blog and one post in particular peaked my interest. It was discussing a new book title The 4-Hour Workweek authored by Timothy Ferriss and its impact on that blog owner. So I headed over to my Audible account and searched for it, low and behold it was available. I hadn't used my subscription in awhile so I downloaded it and with the technology of the internet I was able to start listening to it that very night on my iPod.
Well over the next two nights I had listened to the entire book and even found myself sharing it with Phil, a good friend of mine at work. See we both were suffering from too much to do and information overload. We were performing the exact jobs that 4-5 others did just a few years before and we were expected to do it in less time. We shared the long hours, the getting sick to our stomachs from the stress and the resultant isolation of our families cause we were too tired to even want to interact on some days. We have had successful businesses in the past but we just never found the right formula, most of these ventures ended due to the same problems we were facing with our current predicament.
Tim's book had helped us put the pieces of the puzzle together, we had finally figured out what we were doing wrong. When Phil and I were on vacation together in Hilton Head having drinks down at the Salty Dog cafe' we had a conversation. This conversation carried on for days and we finally had a solid plan in place that was missing from all our former business ventures. We put this plan into action and was surprised by how fast we started seeing results. While on our journey we have met some amazing people, they too were heading down a similar road like us, they didn't just accept fate. They designed a lifestyle that gives them the freedom to be with family, go on extended vacations and make more money in less time then they ever did before.
